First and foremost, our thanks to Madeline Mudge for her wonderful scarf design that appeared in the August 1915 issue of Home Needlecraft Magazine. The pillowcase motif you're thinking about downloading is based on Ms. Mudge's original design.
The design has been saved to a PDF file. (Presumably everyone on the planet who has internet access also has a copy of Adobe's Acrobat Reader installed for those pesky PDF files. If not, go get one.) Yes, we hate PDF files too, but they do ensure that the motif will (a) print and (b) print in the right size... We strongly recommend that you save the file to your hard drive. (Usually done by right-clicking on the link and then choosing "Save Target As" from the drop-down menu that appears.) The PDF file size is 1.7 mb, so it will take just about forever to open online if you don't have a broadband connection. Once you've downloaded the file, it should open quickly in Acrobat Reader so you can print it. The photo above is a smaller size version of the page you are actually downloading. The file will print on a standard sheet of 8-1/2 x 11 paper (landscape mode) and the printed design should measure about 10 x 3. It'll print fine in black and white if you don't have a color printer.
You'll need a way to transfer the motif(s) from the paper to your project -- carbon paper, piercing, transfer pens, or whatever your favorite method. Then have fun stitching, and we'd love to see a photo when you're done :-) View (right-click to download) the free pillowcaseembroidery motif file (PDF format, 1.7 mb) If you have any problems getting or printing the file, please let us know. This is our first effort at providing free embroidery motifs, and we may need to do a little fine-tuning! And now...
We're happy to provide this design for the personal use of our visitors. Although it is based on an old motif that is now in the public domain, the version you are downloading is copyrighted with all rights reserved. That means that you cannot make copies of the motif and sell or give them away. It also means that you need our express permission to use the motif to decorate your web site or to use the design to stitch up items for sale. You are free to post the URL of this page (http://www.sewingpalette.com/free/pcase01.html) to others who may be interested in downloading the design. Better yet, since we'll be adding more free embroidery designs and other patterns, point them to our main Free Stuff page (http://www.sewingpalette.com/freestuff.html). |
